Car Seat Safety

Your child’s safety is our top priority, and making sure your child’s car seat is properly installed can significantly reduce the risk of injury in the event of an accident.

Every year, thousands of young children are harmed or even killed in car crashes, but the correct use of car safety seats can help keep them safe. With so many car seat options available, it can be overwhelming for parents. Here are some important guidelines to help you choose and maintain a safe car seat:

Avoid Using a Car Seat That:

  • Is outdated (check for expiration dates).
  • Has visible cracks or damage.
  • Is missing a label showing the date of manufacture and model number.
  • Is missing parts or accessories.
  • Has been recalled (check online or with the manufacturer).
  • Was involved in a moderate or severe crash.

Car Seat Expiration

Most car seats expire 6–10 years after the manufacturing date. This information can be found on a label located on the bottom or back of the car seat. If the label is missing, consult the car seat's manual, check the manufacturer’s website, or contact them directly. If no expiration date is available, assume the seat expires 6 years after the date of manufacture.

Why Do Car Seats Expire?
Materials in car seats degrade over time due to regular use, exposure to sunlight, and possible accidents. Using an expired car seat compromises your child’s safety as the seat may no longer meet updated safety standards. If your car seat is expired, stop using it immediately and discard it. Never donate or give an expired car seat to anyone.

Check for Recalls or Expiration:

Contact the manufacturer directly. Call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236.
Visit the NHTSA website to verify recalls or safety information..
